Michael Marshall, LMHCA

Michael Marshall is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate with a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Bastyr University. With nearly a decade of experience in wilderness therapy, he has walked alongside individuals through profound moments of struggle, transformation, and growth. His background in rites of passage, somatic healing, and nature-based practice shapes his belief that healing begins by turning inward with gentle curiosity, allowing one’s truth to be held and witnessed.

Michael works with individuals of all ages, welcoming children, adolescents, and adults into his practice. He specializes in working with adolescents and young adults, recognizing the growing need for accessible and compassionate mental health care for youth in rural communities. With children and teens, he offers a grounded, playful, and relational approach that supports emotional regulation, communication skills, and boundary-setting, while collaborating with parents to foster positive family dynamics. With adults, Michael provides a reflective and integrative space to explore life transitions, relationships, identity, and the lingering effects of past experiences. His work invites curiosity, self-compassion, and a deeper connection to one’s values and sense of purpose.

As a male clinician, Michael also has a special interest in men’s work and identity development. He strives to create a supportive space for men and young men to explore the challenges of modern masculinity—offering mentorship, allyship, and a compassionate ear in a world that often discourages vulnerability. His hope is to help men find brotherhood, self-understanding, and the courage to connect with their own sensitivity and strength.

Michael’s clinical approach is:

  • Trauma-informed and body-centered Integrating Gestalt Therapy
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)
  • Sand Tray
  • Life & Career Transitions
  • Self-Esteem & Personal Growth
  • Person-Centered Therapy
  • Somatic Experiencing

He also draws from psychodynamic and intergenerational frameworks, helping clients understand how personal and ancestral patterns shape their present experience.

For Michael, counseling is not about forcing change but about creating a safe and sacred container where transformation can naturally unfold. He believes every person carries the wisdom for their own healing and sees his role as walking beside them with presence, curiosity, and care as they uncover their unique path.

Outside of counseling, Michael enjoys time in nature—surfing, hiking, practicing yoga, and tending his farm outside Olympia with his wife, their two dogs, and a small herd of cattle.
